Digital Site Reconstruction

A municipal plan is overlaid on top of a satellite image and a site plan is drawn. The perspectival properties of the photographs, e.g. the aperture setting of the lens and the sensor size of the camera, can be derived from the photograph’s metadata. These properties help in matching the virtual camera setting with the physical cameras’ on-site locations and establish an accurate optical environment for reconstructing all geometric volumes. Selected photographs depicting key objects are positioned on this two-dimensional plan, from which it is possible to digitally reconstruct the site’s principal features in three-dimensional space.
